Waste Disposal

On achieving Unitary Authority status in 1998, The Royal Borough became a Waste Disposal Authority, whereby it is directly responsible for the safe disposal of all waste collected.

All non-recyclable waste collected, each day, is transported to a landfill site and this amounts to around 46,000 tonnes per year.

Government has determined  that this practice is not sustainable and that alternatives to landfill need to be found.

It currently costs the Authority almost £3m each year to dispose of its waste. Although landfill is a relatively cheap option at present , through taxation measures the cost of landfill is increasing each year to discourage its use.

RBWM is seeking to enter into a contract for waste processing, treatment and disposal of all municpal residual waste that is currently going to landfill. For more details please use the links on the right hand side.
