Special Collections

This service is intended for the collection of up to five household items in one visit, such as free standing household furniture and white goods only, which are too bulky for the normal refuse collection service, but are easily handled and loaded by two men.

The council however, reserves the right to refuse to collect any article deemed to be outside the scope of the service.

Refrigerators and Freezers
The Council can offer a collection of refrigerators and freezers for a charge of £28 per unit. Recent EU legislation has meant that old units are specially treated to ensure that all CFC's are removed. To arrange a collection please follow the steps listed below.

Furniture
The Council also offers a collection service for up to 5 large items of furniture or white goods (other than refrigerators or freezers) for a charge of:

1 x Item = £28
2 x Items = £33
3 x Items = £38
4 x Items = £43
5 x Items = £48
(prices effective as of 4th January 2011)

A reduction in the fee is available for those in receipt of Housing Benefit, please contact the Waste Unit for further details.

a bed includes the base, mattress and headboard as 1 item, although a mattress on its own will still be classed as 1 item.

To arrange a collection
it will be necessary to write to the Waste Management Unit. In your letter identify :

  • The items you would like us to collect
  • Your name and address
  • Daytime telephone number
  • Location where items will be left for collection (this should be somewhere easily accessible on the property, but, outside of the house e.g. driveway ).

It will also be necessary to enclose a cheque made payable to RBWM.

Send to:
Waste Management Unit
York House
Sheet Street
Windsor
SL4 1DD

Once your letter has been received the collection can be arranged and you will sent a receipt and acknowledgement with a specific collection day. Collections are usually carried out within 10 working days of receipt of your letter.

Collections can only be carried out on each given Tuesday and it will be necessary to leave items in the open air for collection. Crews cannot be asked to enter premises to remove items or to climb and carry items up or down stairs.

All household items can be left at the Civic Amenity Site free of charge if you are able to transport them. If you are buying new goods to replace old, it may be worth asking the store whether they can remove old items as part of the service.

If items are still in good condition it may be possible to reuse them. Two charity organisations operate within the area which repair old furniture and appliances for resale to those on lower incomes.
