This scheme follows the hugely successful pilot in 2009 when more than 6,500 households were invited to help test the process, earning RecycleBank points for their recycling efforts.
Since then
• 61% of eligible households have activated their rewards accounts.
• More than twenty million RecycleBank Points have been earned for discounts and offers at over 100 shops, leisure centres, businesses, attractions and cafés/restaurants; many residents have given their Points to schools projects.
• Residents in the trial increased their recycling by an amazing 35%.
The concept is simple - the more you recycle the more rewards you earn.
Special blue wheelie bins are being delivered to all appropriate homes and, as residents in the pilot scheme have proved, the new bins make recycling a lot simpler as tins, cans, paper, cardboard, tetra pak, glass bottles and plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays will go into the one bin - no more separating them into your black and purple boxes.

Community scheme for properties that can't have a blue wheelie bin
Even where a property cannot store or house an individual wheelie bin a new community scheme is now available which means these households do not miss out on rewards for recycling. The scheme means that reward points are allocated based on an equal share of the total amount that was recycled in the area (not including those properties that have their own individual blue bin for recycling). Once residents have told RecycleBank they have recycled, and the area total worked out, points will be deposited into the RecycleBank account of each participating household.
The more your community recycles the more points you earn.
You can get fantastic rewards at participating businesses like M&S, Legoland, Magnet and Windsor Leisure Centres or you can donate your points to the RecycleBank Green Schools Scheme.
How the blue bin works.
The blue bins house a small electronic tag which links to equipment in the collection vehicles where your recycling is weighed to ensure you get the reward points you've earned.
Protecting your privacy
The Royal Borough wants to reassure you that we take your right to privacy very seriously indeed. Absolutely no personal details are held on the tag in the wheelie bin. It is only when you choose to take part in the RecycleBank scheme by activating your secure RecycleBank account that the weight of recycling in your blue bin is converted into points for your household so that you can claim the rewards you have earned.
To make the best use of Veolia collection vehicles, recycling will no longer be picked up by white lorries only, so you should not be concerned if you see your recycling being taken away in purple refuse trucks. This does not mean your recycling is heading for landfill, just that the collection vehicles are being used efficiently.
Thanks to your efforts the borough's overall recycling rate is already more than 40% - and we believe new rewards scheme will mean we can keep on getting better and better.
