Home Composting

Picture of a wheelbarrow full with composting materialComposting is a natural process whereby green garden and kitchen waste is broken down by micro-organisms, such as wood lice, beetles and worms into a soil-like material. By using a bin at home, this process is concentrated to produce an excellent, free, soil improver which provides food for plants and adds humus to the soil structure.

Composting at home is not only good for the garden, but, it also helps the environment. A quarter of the rubbish we produce which ends up in the wheeled bins is material which could instead be put to good use and turned into compost.

Home composting reduces a reliance upon ever diminishing landfill sites and at the same time returns important nutrients back into your garden, improves plant health and growth, helps soil structure and improves moisture retention.
