Christmas Recycling and Collection of Christmas Trees

Christmas is traditionally a time of excess and there is no exception with regard to the volumes of waste we produce. Statistics show that as a nation, UK rubbish bins at the end of the festive season could contain as much as one billion Christmas cards; six million Christmas trees and 83 square kilometres of wrapping paper. In the Royal Borough alone an additional 70 tonnes of glass bottles will be thrown away.

The Royal Borough invites residents to ensure that :

  • all wrapping paper (not the shiny foil type) and Christmas cards are separated for recycling
  • all paper, card, glass, cans and plastic bottles are put out for recycling in your recycling boxes and that any additional recycling material is left next to your box in carrier bags or white / clear sacks
  • all real Christmas trees are taken to one of the collection points provided.

To assist in recycling at this time of year the Authority makes special arrangements for the collection of real Christmas trees. Details are provided below.

Real Christmas Trees may be left at any of the following sites (minus decorations) between Monday 4 January and Friday 15 January:
