Meet the Team

Craig Bassett, project manager

My name is Craig Bassett and I am the Royal Borough's project manager for the Windsor and Eton relief road and Clarence Road roundabout project.

I have previously worked on a number of major projects in the UK, Australia and the Far East, both as project manager and contractor.

I have been involved with the WERR project since the grant was approved from government.

I have been working closely with the consultant, contractor, officers and members at the council and local community groups on the design, programme and successful implementation of the project.

From these meetings and the feedback I have received it is clear that the relief road and Clarence Road roundabout are very important components of the transport network in Windsor.

Any major roadworks will result in some changes to the way motorists have to use the areas affected. It is a main aim of this project to implement innovative measures and work practices that minimise the impact that our project has on users and the local community.

I hope that by using communication methods such as newsletters, the open day, the council's customer service centre and website that I can do my best to take on board your concerns and address any issues that arise.

Mark Shopland, contracts manager

My name is Mark Shopland and I am the contracts manager for Birse Civils, the main contractor for the works being carried out on the Windsor and Eton relief road and Clarence Road roundabout project.

I have been involved in the scheme since the Early Contractor Involvement period, working closely with the Royal Borough and its consultant, Atkins, to develop the design, scope and imlementation of the scheme.

I have been involved with numerous similar high profile schemes in the past, many within busy town or city centre locations and on high-speed roads.

We have used our broad experience to look closely at ways of completing the works on programme while minimising the disruption to local residents and road users.

This has included consideration of several options of construction and phasing of the works as well as alternative solutions to reduce the overall programme duration.

Now we are entering the construction phase I will continue to liaise closely with the Royal Borough throughout the contract as well as ensuring the site team are fully prepared and focused on scheme delivery.

We are looking forward to getting started and are confident that the hard work in the important early stages will lead to the successful completion of the contract.
