School Travel Strategy

Introduction

This document sets out our approach to increasing the use of 'Sustainable Modes of Travel' for all journeys to and from schools within the Borough. It is also in response to the Education and Inspections Act 2006, which places a duty on local authorities to develop sustainable travel and transport networks and to promote their use for home to school travel. Sustainable modes of travel include:

  • Walking;
  • Cycling;
  • Bus / coach;
  • Rail; and
  • Car sharing.

The Strategy

The strategy is established to focus our resources under the following key themes:

  • School Travel Plans
  • Infrastructure:
  • Road Safety / Independent Travel
  • Home to School / Post 16 Travel
  • Extended Schools
  • 14-19 Provision

The Strategy will be integrated within the planning and implementation of all relevant capital and revenue investment programmes.

A copy of the strategy is available for download via the link below.
