Resurfacing Programme Frequently Asked Questions

This is a traditional tried and tested method that involves spreading a layer of stone chippings onto a thin layer of bitumen binder, which is sprayed onto the road first.

This type of treatment is used on roads that are structurally sound but require a new surface to improve skid resistance. The treatment also helps prolong the life of the road by sealing any surface crack and preventing water ingress.

The process usually leaves surplus chippings on the road surface but these will normally be 'run in' by traffic movement or swept up during routine sweeping operations. The surface is usually free from any loose chippings within a few weeks but further sweeping will be arranged if required.
