Cycling is a healthy, non-polluting and efficient travel choice. We want to encourage more people to choose cycling for everyday travel by making this a safer, more attractive way to get around the Borough.
Cycle facilities are important in the promotion of cycling. Through our Local Transport Plan, the Council is working towards a safe and convenient network of cycle routes to cater for a wide variety of journeys. We are also working with partner organisations to ensure that cycle parking is provided at key destinations such as: town centres; local shops; hospitals; leisure centres; railway stations; schools; and workplaces.
The Council is working with schools, hospitals, businesses and other organisations to encourage cycling as part of travel plans. We encourage the provision of on-site facilities, changes to policy and improvements to terms and conditions that support and promote cycling for the school run and commuting trips as well as visitor and business travel.
The Council offers Bikeability training for children in Years 5 and 6, giving them the skills necessary to be able to cycle safely and independently. We also provide advice on appropriate use of cycle safety equipment and security measures.
Earlier this year, the council set aside part of its annual budget and asked local residents how they through this could best be spent. Improving cycling facilities emerged as the top priority. As a result, an extra £100,000 has now been allocated for investment in cycling schemes and initiatives during the current financial year.
In order to ensure that the money is used as effectively as possible, we are asking local cyclists to tell us about the issues that affect their everyday cycling journeys to, from and around the Royal Borough, and to give us their priorities for how and where the funds should be spent.
Survey forms are being distributed to cyclists on street. Alternatively, copies can be picked up from local bike shops, from the town hall in Maidenhead and from the council's offices in Sheet Street, Windsor.
You can also complete an online version of the survey. The closing date for responses is Friday 20 August.
