Cycle Checklist


Keeping your bike in tip-top condition improves not only its safety but also its performance.  See our checklist below to ensure that your bicycle is safe and in proper working order:
Brakes: Apply both brakes and push bike forwards-the bike should not move. If the bike does move check for worn brake block or frayed/loose cables
Cycle Moving
Brake cables: Check for frayed/loose cables
Chain: lightly spray the chain with a Teflon based oil.  Check for wear and rust.  Tighten any slack.

Derailleur gears:  Check gear levers are tight and make sure that gear changes are smooth

Frame and forks: Repair any damage and cure any rust

Lights and Reflectors: Check that these are clean and shiny
Nuts and Bolts: Tighten any that are loose, particularly those on mudguards, brakes, chain guards and wheels

 Seat and handlebars: Make sure that these are secure and at a comfortable height

 Tyres:  Keep them pumped up hard.  Check for worn tread, bald patches and cracked or split rubber
 Wheels and spokes:  Check wheels run true.  Repair or replace loose, damaged or missing spokes
