Why have a Town Partnership?
The historic towns of Windsor and Eton enjoy an unrivalled regional, national and international reputation.
Together with Windsor Castle, the largest inhabited royal castle in the
world, the towns boast other world-renowned visitor attractions, Eton College,
Theatre Royal Windsor, Windsor racecourse, a rich and varied choice of shops,
restaurants and leisure facilities set within beautiful scenery and the River
Thames. With more than five million people visiting every year, the towns
have continually featured within the top twenty visitor destinations in the UK.
Add to this a dynamic and prosperous commercial sector within Windsor and Eton
fostering more than 450 businesses, ranging from small family run firms to
major international companies including Centrica and Legoland.
Put this all together and we have an incredible local economy and one of the most pleasant places to live in the UK. So why do we need a Partnership? Quite simply, a strong and effective partnership will:
harness the potential of all those willing to contribute to the continuing
and future success of our communities to a greater extent than by means of
individual effort and commitment.
The Partnership is a public and private sector venture with the support of the
Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and a number of locally based key
businesses and organisations.
The Partnership has a Board, which at present is chaired by a local Councillor. All those partners contributing a minimum of £3,000 per annum are entitled to voting rights and a seat on the Board. The Windsor and District Chamber of Commerce representing many local businesses is also a Board Member.
The Partnership, through the Local Authority employs a full time Town Manager responsible for the co-ordination and delivery of key projects agreed by the Board.
The Partnership functions on a three year rolling financial commitment.
