Traveline south east now provides information about bus services as a text-message to your mobile phone. A national system supported by all the main bus operators and operated by Traveline can do this from almost all bus stops in the participating regions. Once you know the code for your stop you can make the enquiry wherever you are.
To find the unique code , go to www.transportdirect.info website
and on the home page click onto "find a place " then click onto
"find a map" and then fill in the required details or
just your postcode into the box and click "next" Once the details are
shown you may need to zoom into the largest scale to read . If you can see a 7
or 8 letter code then traveline-txt is available for those stops.
Please note even if at your local bus stop these codes are not displayed
yet this service can still be used. A programme is underway to roll out text
codes on all stops Borough wide.
You will receive a message back normally in less than a minute with details of the next three departures. It will show a clock time if the information comes from service timetables alternatively it will show an expected waiting time if it comes from a real-time information system.
Please remember that each code is for one specific stop – and applies to one direction of travel. The code for the stop where you get off will not be the same as the code for the stop where you get on.
Bus stops will have these unique codes displayed either on the flag or at the top of timetables. Store the code of your choice in your phone's memory ( as a template), which you can then send whenever you need to know the next journey.
If you want departure times for a specific service, simply add the service
number to your message so for example to find out the next few scheduled
departures for the service number 9 from the High Street text
"winatjw 9" as a text message to 84268. Alternatively For times of
the next few scheduled departures from any bus stop, simply send the SMS Code
for that stop to 84268
Codes are easy to type – you only have to press a key once, even though
this may show a different letter.
Calls to traveline-txt cost 25p plus your network operator's normal text
sending charge.
This leaflet has been produced as a qucik reference to explain how to receive bus times on your mobile phone.
