Temporary Road Closures

Remembrance Day Services 2008

The attached pdf is a summary of the temporary road closures that will be occurring throughout the Borough for the 2008 Remembrance Day Services 9th and 11th November.

Road closures and diversions

Sometimes works on the highway require a road to be temporarily closed to traffic. All road closures require a temporary traffic regulation order issued by the council. As there is a legal and consultative process to be undertaken, at least  8 weeks advance notice of the closure is required.
All costs involved for both the closure and diversion signing will have to be met by the person or organisation requesting the closure.

Parades and Street Parties

Sometimes, in special circumstances roads are closed to allow sporting events or parades to take place.
All events that are likely to impact on the highway or council land will need to be considered by the Council's Safety Advisory Group. For further advise please contact

When special events require the road to be closed  to traffic a temporary road closure order will be required. All cost involved for both the closure and diversion signing will have to be borne by the event organiser unless the event is for charity. At least eight weeks notice is required and for some events up to three months will be needed in order to organise them properly. Large events may require even longer.
Roads that are closed for sporting, social or entertainment events can only be arranged once a year. The consent of The Secretary of State will be required for events that take place more than once a year.
Demonstrations cannot be dealt with by the Council and for these events the police must be contacted so that they can make the appropriate arrangements.
