This leaflet explains how we work out your contribution to the cost of the support package you receive when you are living in your own home.

Contributions and Financial Assessments Explained

A new Contribution Policy came into effect from 3 January 2011. This policy says that everyone in need of social care must be financially assessed to determine how much they can afford to pay towards the total cost of their care and support. It also says that if a person cannot afford to pay the full cost of their care and support, the council may be able to fund the difference.

The government regulations on charging for care in a residential care or nursing home requires local Councils to assess the amount that you can afford to contribute to the cost of the care.
