Description: All referrals are screened by the duty team to determine their suitability for Community Mental Health Services. Assessments, short term work & sign posting are also carried out when appropriate. A duty worker is available during working hours to take all urgent calls. An approved social worker is also available to carry out Mental Health Act assessments during office hours.

Common conditions treated: services are for people with severe and / or enduring conditions: Psychotic illness (such as schizophrenia), Serious Self harm, Extreme and disabling anxiety, Bipolar Disorder (manic depression), Severe clinical depression, Personality Disorders, Serious & disabling obsessions or Phobias. Those with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and or Panic disorder would be seen by the CMHT psychology service if appropriate. Those with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) should be referred directly to the PTSD service in Reading, West Berkshire.

Those with alcohol dependence should be referred directly to the Berkshire Drug & Alcohol Specialist Service (BDASS) formally known as CASCADE. Those with illicit drug dependence should be referred to Turning Point 2 (T2).

You can access our services through: A GP referral to the Duty and Assessment team. Referrals should preferably be made in writing, except in emergencies (information to follow). Referrals will be acknowledged and contact made within two weeks. Emergency referrals can be made direct to the Duty Officer who is available during normal office hours. The Team cannot accept referrals from people with problems primarily related to marital issues, learning difficulties, dementia, drug or alcohol abuse. Similarly, referrals are not normally accepted for people under 17 years of age or over 75 years of age.
