Books on Prescription: Helping you to help yourself.

The Books on Prescription Scheme is a very effective way of helping people with common mental health problems, such as anxiety, depression, phobias and eating disorders to find out more, to manage their health problems and to regain confidence and enjoyment of life.
In partnership with library services in East Berkshire, GPs and other health professionals prescribe books from a list of high quality self-help manuals selected by experienced mental health practitioners.

How does it work?
Once you have received your 'prescription' from your local health professional you can exchange it for the recommended book at the Library. If the book is not immediately available, the library will get it for you from another branch as soon as possible - free of charge.

For further information speak to your healthcare professional or download a copy of the leaflet from our publications page.

Windsor, Ascot and Maidenhead LINK Group

The WAM Link Group aims to offer a friendly, open environment, where people can be part of a group. Members of the group will aim to address ways of coping more positively with difficulties they may face in their day to day lives. The group is not based on delivering therapy, but more on education, understanding & sign posting to appropriate services. The group runs for 12 weeks and you are expected to attend all 12. New members can join at any time as every 12 weeks the groups will go over the same topics.

Is the group suitable for me?
This group may be appropriate if you experience long term problems with how you manage life, or often resort to self destructive behaviours to cope with your feelings. You may have had suicidal thoughts or contact with the Mental Health Services, but things still don't seem to get any better. The link group aims to help you to gain some focus and think about where to go next.

For more information you can download a copy of the leaflet from our publications page.
