Rethink is a mental health charity which works to help everyone affected by a severe and enduring mental illness recover a better quality of life.

Services include:

  • Community services: 1:1 recovery planning and small group work providing social contact, practical help, community based opportunities, and information and advice
  • Befriending services
  • 1:1 community support to help enable individuals to live independently
  • User involvement services
  • Assistance in enrolling in new courses and continued support whilst studying
  • Sports & exercise
  • Stop smoking advisor.

Everyone using Rethink community support services develops an individual recovery plan based on personal goals and aims.

Criteria:

  • Affected by a mental health problem
  • Aged between 18- 65 years
  • Live in Windsor, Ascot or Maidenhead

Referall:

  • Can be referred by CMHT or G.P. A referral form needs to be completed in which includes diagnosis, risk issues and consent.
  • Clients can self refer (if they have previously been under a CMHT) by visiting the centre or phoning.

New Voice

New Voice is a Mental Health Service User Group which enables service users to contribute to the development and delivery of mental health services in Windsor and Maidenhead.The principle is to raise awareness and support those with or recovering from a mental health problem.


East Berkshire MIND

'Learning as a Stepping Stone to Employment'

Project Aim is to support the low skilled, and those that have been out of education and learning for a considerable amount of time to re-enter education and learning as a stepping stone to employment.
East Berkshire Mind will support mental health service users with

  • An assessment of their individual needs
  • Support and planning meetings
  • Discuss accredited learning opportunities
  • Discuss non-accredited learning opportunities- communication, basic skills etc.
  • Support with sourcing work experience placements
  • Job searching and interview skills, 1-1 sessions
  • Support with voluntary work placements.

All Beneficiaries will be offered regular review meetings to plan their next goal building on their achievements.
There are limited resources available as this project will be offered across East Berkshire.


Mental Health Promotion

Mental Health Promotion offers health awareness training, presentations, promotional events, such as World Mental Health Day and advice on all aspects of mental health. This work is completed with schools, employers, voluntary and statutory organisations and covers all age groups and sections of the community. Promotional events take place in shopping centres, sports centres, hospitals and libraries to allow the public easy access to information.

Berkshire Drug and Alcohol Specialist Service (BDASS) East

(Previously known as CASCADE).

BDASS is a drug and alcohol service providing comprehensive assessment, community detox, counselling, relapse prevention, harm minimisation, liaison, psychiatric assessments, education and information, blood screening and access to residential rehabilitation (Ward 12 at Heatherwood hospital). They also have a 'Young People's Service' for people under 19 years of age.

BDASS East which covers the areas of Slough, Windsor & Maidenhead and Bracknell. (BDASS West covers Reading, Newbury and Wokingham).

Clients with a alcohol problem can be referred straight to BDASS by their G.P or their mental health team. Clients are to be aged 19 to 65 and be motivated for treatment.

T2- Turning Point

Turning Point is a drug treatment service for people in whom are motivated to stabilise, reduce or stop using drugs or alcohol. T2 offers self help evening groups, counselling, alternative therapies (including ear acupuncture, head massage, & reflexology), 1:1 support/ key-work sessions to develop a recovery plan, drop in service, education, needle exchange, on site G.P appointments, relapse prevention group, safer injecting group, support to gain employment and also a young people's outreach service. T2 also provide support for colleagues, friends and family members affected.

Criteria:

  • Live in the boroughs of Windsor, Maidenhead & Ascot,
  • Motivated to stabilise, reduce or stop using drugs,
  • No age restrictions,
  • Not have only alcohol issues (in this case refer to BDASS).

Clients can be referred by any source including self- referral. Client details can be faxed or the client can present at T2 for screening.

Berkshire Eating Disorder Support groups

The Eating Disorders Support Reading is a voluntary organisation, offering support for those experiencing eating disorders and for those caring for individuals suffering from an eating disorder as part of the Beat Network. They run a recovery group and a carers group for eating disorders which meet every month.

The group offers emotional and practical support, an opportunity to meet others facing similar everyday challenges, and Information about eating disorders. Discussions of topics are agreed by the group.

Recoverers Group: Runs on the first Monday of every month. 7.30-8.45pm. Attendees must be over 18 or over 16 and with a carer/parent. Attendees do not have to have a diagnosis or a referral.
Carers Group: Runs on the third Monday of every month. 7.30-8.45pm. This group is for anyone caring for someone with an eating disorder (parents, professional carers, siblings, partners).

They discuss selected topics and have guest speakers for the Carers' Group, while the Recovery Group tends to have a less structured approach. The groups offer a place to gather, share experiences, support each other and work together to explore new ways of coping. Recoverers' can attend both groups (many do) but the carers' group is focussed on the needs of carers.

The groups are open to all, free of charge and always welcomes new members. (Due to restrictions imposed by Beat, all attendees must be 18 or over or 16 or over and attend with a guardian.) Both groups meet at 25 Erleigh Road in Reading (RG1 5LR).

Crisis Response Team (CRT)

The Crisis Response Team provides an out-of-hours community mental health service for those people in crisis. The team operates throughout East Berkshire. The service aims to prevent unnecessary admissions to hospital by supporting people in their home. The team responds to client contact by traveling to the clients own home.
