Valuing People with a Learning Disability

The Royal Borough committed continually improving lives with learning disabilities citizens the Borough. It is right all individuals experience themselves being fully included their community and have equality access to those amenities in life most people can take for granted as a matter of course.

The Government White Paper "Valuing People" a strategy for the future of services for people with learning disabilities.

In 2001 the Government published the White Paper "Valuing People- a strategy for change". This strategy set out a new vision focussing on four key principles: Rights, Independence, Choice and Inclusion.

The Government set out new national objectives for services for people with learning disabilities, supported by targets, to provide a clear direction for local agencies. Social Services are the lead body for learning disability services. To help them achieve the ambitions of Valuing People and make the vision a reality, each local authority had to put in place Partnership Boards by November 2001.

The work of the Board to achieve the vision and objectives of Valuing People locally is enshrined in the Learning Disability Commissioning Strategy.
