Berkshire Adoption Advisory Service

The Berkshire Adoption Advisory Service provides adoption services for the six Berkshire unitary local authorities.

Their services include:

• Running adoption panels for West and East Berkshire
• Letterbox Service which co-ordinates arrangments for information exchange between adoptive families and birth families
• Children's records. Records and databases relating to pre-1992 closed Children in Care Records and Adoption Records are managed by the Advisory Service. Enquiries relating to these records are dealt with by the Records Office. Enquiries on matters post-1991 should be made to the local authority concerned
• Consultancy. The advisory staff are available to social workers and managers for consultation on adoption and permanence matters
• The service offers training for social work staff, panel members, prospective adopters and approved adopters.
