Berkshire Adoption Advisory Service

The Berkshire Adoption Advisory Service provides adoption service for the six Berkshire unitaries.   
Their services include:
  • Running the two adoption panels for West and East Berkshire
  • Letterbox Service which co-ordinates arrangments for information exchange between adopted children and members of their birth families.
  • Children's records.  Records and databases relating to pre-1992 closed Children Looked After Records and Adoption Records are managed by the Advisory Service. Enquiries relating to these records are dealt with by the Records Office.  Enquiries on matters post-1991 should be made to the local authority concerned.
  • Consultancy.  The advisory staff are available to social workers and their managers for consultation on adoption and permanence matters.
  • The service offers training for social work staff, panel members, perspective adopters and approved adopoters.
