Community Team for People with Learning Disabilities

Who are we?

The Community Team for People with Learning Disabilities (CTPLD) consists of Nurses, Care Managers, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists and Psychologists.  The team is made up of employees from Health and Social Services.

Anyone can contact the CTPLD to ask for help, either for yourself or on behalf of someone else who has a learning disability.  If we are not able to assist you at all, then we can advise you on who best to contact to get the help you need.

What do we do?

The team works for people with learning disabilities and their carers.  They could be living at home with family or in residential homes.  The team gives support in different ways:

  • Helping people to use health services i.e. GPs, Dentists, attending hospital appointments etc.
  • Advising people on how to take better care of their health needs
  • Helping people to learn new skills and make new choices
  • Helping people with mental health and emotional difficulties
  • Advising people on benefits and entitlements that are available to them
  • Helping people with physical and sensory disabilities
  • Helping people who have difficulty communicating
  • Counselling for bereavement, loss, abuse
  • Helping to find the most suitable accommodation i.e. residential, supported living or giving support when living at home with family
  • Giving support and help to carers
