Hospice Care for Children

Children's hospices provide respite and terminal care for children suffering from life-limiting conditions in a home-from-home environment. By placing the responsibility for the child's medical and day-to-day care in the hands of qualified professionals, the children and their families are able to spend more quality time together in what may be the concluding moments of the child's life. Above and beyond everything, children's hospices are places that focus on helping a life-limited child live their life to the full. Care is provided for the child and their family at no cost to them for as long as is necessary, including post bereavement support. Although they maybe part subsidised by the government, children's hospices receive almost all of their funding from donations from the public and other organisations.
The children's hospices that serve this area are:

Helen & Douglas House

Helen House offers respite and end of life care for children with life shortening conditions. Douglas House, opened in 2004 as the world's first hospice specifically for young adults 16-35 years of age with life shortening conditions. Both houses also offer support for the whole family.
