Children's hospices provide respite and terminal care for children
suffering from life-limiting conditions in a home-from-home environment.
By placing the responsibility for the child's medical and day-to-day care
in the hands of qualified professionals, the children and their families are
able to spend more quality time together in what maybe the concluding moments
of the child's life. Above and beyond everything, children's hospices
are places that focus on helping a life-limited child live their life to the
full. Care is provided for the child and their family at no cost to them for as
long as is necessary, including post bereavement support. Although they maybe
part subsidised by the government, children's hospices receive almost all
of their funding from donations from the public and other organisations.

Helen House offers respite and end of life care for children with life
shortening conditions. Douglas House, opened in 2004 as the world's first
hospice specifically for young adults 16-35 years of age with life shortening
conditions. Both houses also offer support for the whole family.
