A new service for Carers!
Anticipating Carers' needs - a pre-bereavement service
Aims of the Service:
By providing pro-active, timely, practical pre-bereavement support to Carers, aged 65+, whose cared for person has been assessed as terminally ill with 12 months or less to live, this Service will educate and enable Carers to perform everyday activities with which they are unfamiliar e.g. nutritional meal preparation, budgeting, using kitchen appliances and filling the car with petrol etc.
It will also prepare them for the death of their loved one, provide post bereavement emotional and practical support and prevent the Carers' decline into requiring long-term social care services. This reduction in the need for social care support will result in a better quality of life for the Carers' by allowing them to remain living independently in their own homes with confidence that they can meet the practical challenges of daily living, some aspects of which they may not have previously undertaken before on their own.
If you feel that you, a family member or friend in this situation would benefit from support from this Service, please contact the Referrals Coordinator between 9am and 2.30pm, Monday to Friday on 01628 683714. This is a joint venture by RBWM and Cruse Bereavement Care Thames Valley employing Cruse trained and supervised volunteers.
