Street Cleaning
The Royal Borough's household survey in 2002 showed that clean streets
are a top priority for local people - and so that is why the Streetcare Team
closely monitors the standard of cleansing carried out by the Council's
cleansing contractor.
This includes:
- Regular scheduled cleaning of all roads and footpaths
- Continuous daytime litter patrols in town centres
- Emptying of street litter bins
- Emergency litter clearances
- Fly-tipping removal
- Removal of dead animals from the highway
What you can do to help:
- Don't allow your hedge to encroach onto the public footway. An
overgrown hedge may hinder street cleaning, and can also be hazardous
to pedestrians.
- Dispose of your litter by placing it in a street litter bin or by
taking it home. It is a criminal offence to drop litter, including
cigarette ends anywhere, and you could receive a £75/£50
fixed penalty, or a fine of up to £2,500
- Clean up after your dog by using a plastic bag. You can place this
into the nearest dog waste bin or a street litter bin, or in your
wheelie bin at home
- Inform Streetcare if you see a street litter bin that is
overflowing or has been damaged, or you see a street that is badly
littered.
- Don't leave wheeled bins permanently on the footway, and
don't put refuse bins or sacks out for collection any earlier than
is necessary
- Take bulky items of waste to Braywick Household Waste &
Recycling Centre, Maidenhead, or to Chalvey Civic Amenity Site, Slough.
Alternatively, use the Council's chargeable special collection
service. For more information go to special
collections If you dump waste in the street, you could be fined up
to £50,000 and/or six month imprisonment.
- Check that anyone who takes your waste away is registered to do so
by the Environment Agency. You
could be held liable if your waste is later found dumped. For more
information go to
waste carriers
