Flooding Information Frequently Asked Questions

The Council has a limited supply of sandbags that are used primarily for the protection of vulnerable residential properties or those that have a history of flooding.

We will not provide sandbags for protecting gardens, outbuildings or other structures that are not residential. All requests will be assessed in terms of priority of need and the risk associated with flooding.

Priorities are based on:

  • Protection of people who are elderly and/or disabled
  • Protection of residential habitable property
  • Previous flooding history
  • Accessibility
  • Health & Safety of the crews making deliveries
  • Staff availability to produce sabdgabs, given competing pressures during flooding and other emergencies.

REMEMBER - During times of flooding the councils resourses are in high demand and we may not be able to assist you in time. You have a duty to protect your own property. If you live in an area where flooding is a problem. Take precautions beforehand and keep the on hand in case of emergency.

Please view the Sandbags web pages for further advice.
