Community Coaches

Community Coaches are sports coaches who deliver coaching in the community.

Example of types of coaching they can do

This will depend on the group and the aims of the sessions. To give you examples - sessions can run on a taster session, half a term, a whole term, holiday scheme intensive week and there is an aim to set up long term regular provision across the borough.

Basketball

Basketball coaching is available for 6-25 year olds and the coaches are qualified through England Basketball as well as completed the necessary Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) and reference checks. They deliver a range of skills relevant to basketball and basketball coaching depending on age group and ability and as part of their role can support local competitions giving the necessary information for young people to continue if they wish.

Multi-skills

Multi-skills coaches are qualified at a leadership level in at least one sport and normally have a minimum of an assistance level in another sport as well as have completed the necessary CRB and reference checks. This enables them to deliver a range of activities covering different sports. Not to be confused with multi-sports, the coaches deliver sessions to 8-13 year olds and focus on basic skills needed for all sports/physical activities including balance, running, jumping, kicking, striking through a range of games and exercises. Additionally they can work with older groups 13+ with special needs to address the same skills.
