The need for rejuvenation of Maidenhead Town Centre

There has been a long held desire to improve the town centre both in terms of what it offers and its physical appearance.

The need to pro-actively lead the process and have clear objectives is vital to the success of the rejuvenation of the town centre.

The Partnership for the Rejuvenation of Maidenhead (PRoM)

In December 2007, the Royal Borough launched PRoM bringing together political parties and community and business organisations, with support from council officers. It is a steering group that is independently chaired.

Their focus as a steering group is clear - to provide an agreed way forward so that Maidenhead is restored to the vibrant place people want it to be.

PRoM is involved in devising and advising on the 'future planning strategy' for Maidenhead Town Centre as part of the Local Development Framework. However, rejuvenation is not simply about 'future planning strategy', and PRoM is encouraging other measures in the shorter term.

Quality Streets consultation leafletMaking sure Maidenhead town centre is streets ahead - that's the aim of a new project to create a more attractive environment for everyone. Back in September, we laid a variety of samples of paving materials in the High Street and have now also installed street furniture prototypes. The aim is to see what these will look like in the ground and to test their durability and maintenance. On the 18th January 2010 we launched a consultation seeking your views. If you have any comments on the sample panel or street furniture prototypes please email prom@rbwm.gov.uk Select the link to Improving Maidenheads' Streets and Spaces page to find out more about what we are doing to improve the appearance of the town.

Maidenhead Town Centre Area Action Plan front coverThank you very much to those who commented on the draft Area Action Plan (AAP) which sets out our preferred approach to rejuvenate Maidenhead Town Centre up to 2026. The consultation has now closed.

All the comments received during the consultation are currently being assessed. Once this is complete we will start to prepare the final AAP. This will be made available for you to further comment in the summer of 2010 before being submitted to the government for independent examination by a Planning Inspector. The draft AAP and the associated sustainability appraisal report can still be downloaded from the Maidenhead Town Centre AAP web page for information purposes only.
