The need for rejuvenation of Maidenhead Town Centre

There has been a long held desire to improve the town centre both in terms of what it offers and its physical appearance.

The need to pro-actively lead the process and have clear objectives is vital to the success of the rejuvenation of the town centre.

The Partnership for the Rejuvenation of Maidenhead (PRoM)

In December 2007, the Royal Borough launched PRoM bringing together political parties and community and business organisations, with support from council officers. It is a steering group that is independently chaired.

Their focus as a steering group is clear - to provide an agreed way forward so that Maidenhead is restored to the vibrant place people want it to be.

PRoM was involved in devising and advising on the 'future planning strategy' for Maidenhead Town Centre as part of the Local Development Framework. The Maidenhead Town Centre Area Action Plan was approved in May 2011.

However, rejuvenation is not simply about 'future planning strategy', and PRoM is encouraging other measures in the shorter term.

Maidenhead Town Centre Area Action Plan front coverThe Area Action Plan (AAP), which sets out our plans to rejuvenate Maidenhead Town Centre up to 2026, was approved by an independent government inspector in May 2011.

The AAP will be formally adopted at a meeting of Council later in September 2011. Upon adoption it will form part of the council's Local Development Framework, the folder of documents which forms the wider planning strategy for the Royal Borough. Policies in the AAP supersede those for Maidenhead Town Centre contained within the Local Plan.

The Inspectors Report and the 'Maidenhead Town Centre AAP Proposed Version for Adoption' can be viewed on the Maidenhead Town Centre AAP webpage.
