Urban Potential

Urban Potential Study 2004
In order to assess the capacity of the urban areas to accommodate additional housing, the Council conducted an Urban Potential Study, which was first published in 2004.  Using a base date of 31 March 2003, it looked at housing potential in the existing built-up areas of the Borough up to 2016.

Urban Potential Review 2006
In September 2006, a review of this study was published.  This exercise was conducted using the same methodology as above but updated to use the base date of 31 March 2006 to coincide with that of the LDF, and to provide estimates of housing potential up to 31 March 2026.

Further work
In line with Planning Policy Statement 3: Housing, the Urban Potential Review will be superceded by the Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA), which will assess specific appropriate sites for future housing development within the Royal Borough.

The Urban Potential Review 2006 and the Executive Summary of the Urban Potential Study 2004 are available to download below.  Unfortunately due to the size of the documents, it has not been possible to publish the Urban Potential Study 2004 in full for download.  All documents may be viewed at the Council's receptions at the Town Hall, St. Ives Road, Maidenhead and York House, Sheet Street, Windsor by prior arrangement, or are available for purchase from the planning department.  Please see Publications available from the Planning Policy Unit webpage.
