Unemployment is at a low level in Windsor and Maidenhead. In October 2008, there were 1,006 claimants of unemployment benefit in the Borough. This amounts to an unemployment rate of 1.2%. The download below shows that local unemployment is running at below the national rate of 2.6%.
During 2002 and 2003, the Thames Valley was affected far more than the rest
of the country by the global downturn in the I.T. and hi-tech industries;
during this time the number of claimants rose to 1,500 people. The local
economy is now slowly recovering but is still not as healthy relative to the
national situation as it used to be in the mid-1990's.
