Sustainable Design and Construction SPD

The Council has prepared a Sustainable Design and Construction Draft Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) in order to provide detailed advice on improving the sustainability performance of buildings and spaces.  It covers a range of areas including energy efficiency, renewable energy, water and waste management, materials, biodiversity and pollution, and be applicable to the full range of building types (e.g. residential, office, etc.) across the Royal Borough.

The Draft SPD draws on established best practice guidance and methodologies in setting out requirements and advice on acceptable building performance and has been subject to scrutiny through Sustainability Appraisal (SA).  Upon adoption the SPD will form part of the Local Development Framework (LDF).

The Draft SPD and SA Report were published for a six-week period from 7th November to 19th December 2008.  While no further comment is sought on the SPD, the consultation documents can be downloaded below.  The Council is currently analysing responses with the intention of developing the Draft SPD and SA Report into final versions for adoption by June 2009.
