The Maidenhead Town Centre Area Action Plan (AAP) will provide a detailed planning strategy for the town centre, ensuring coordinated development of an appropriate scale, mix and quality. It will cover not only the shopping core but also the surrounding leisure facilities, offices and major roads. The AAP will form part of the Local Development Framework (LDF) and replace the saved policies for the town centre in the Local Plan.

The preparation of the AAP is being guided by the Partnership for the Rejuvenation of Maidenhead (PRoM); a cross-party group set up by the council, with an independent chairman and including representatives from a number civic and community organisations, charged with finding agreed solutions for town centre regeneration.

The preparation of the AAP is being informed by research and community views. Details of research studies such as those looking at future employment and retail floorspace needs are available via the Evidence Base web page. An overview of community views expressed through consultation exercises to date can be downloaded below. We are grateful to all those who have contributed to date.

A draft AAP - the Preferred Options Document, was published for a four week period from 14th January to 12 February 2010. This consultation has now closed. The draft AAP and the associated sustainability appraisal report can still be downloaded below for information purposes only.

All the comments received during the consultation are currently being assessed. Once this is complete we will start to prepare the final AAP. This will be made available for you to further comment in the summer of 2010 before being submitted to the government for independent examination.

For further information on the draft AAP or the consultation process please contact the Planning Policy Unit on 01628 796115 or by emailing Planning.Policy@rbwm.gov.uk
