Employment in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead is concentrated particularly in the Service and office-based sectors. Many hi-tech companies are located here including computer firms such as Computer Associates, Nortel, Cincom, Hitachi, AltaVista and Fujitsu, plus several pharmaceutical companies including Smithkline Beecham, Johnson and Johnson, Covance, Abbott Laboratories and Aventis Pasteur MSD. Tourism generates jobs directly at Legoland and other attractions such as Windsor Castle, but also accounts for the sizeable distribution, hotel and restaurant sector.
