Development Sites

Spatial planning is about how land is used. However it also looks at how places work, how people get around, the services available to them and the communities they are part of. This includes an outline for delivering strategic development needs and requirements, including housing, employment, leisure and retail.

An important aspect of delivery is an understanding of the availability of land for development.

In line with Planning Policy Statement 3: Housing, the Council has prepared a Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA), which assesses potential sites for future housing development within the Royal Borough. A consultation on a draft methodology was undertaken between Friday 16 November 2007 and Friday 7 December 2007. The first SHLAA report was published in January 2009 and the first annual update was published in December 2009.

Do you have a site to promote for development?

If you own, or have an interest in a site that you think should be considered to meet development needs and requirements, it is important that you inform the Council of its potential availability. Please complete the pro-forma below and e-mail to Planning.Policy@rbwm.gov.uk. Alternatively, please write to:

At this stage all potential development sites will be examined. However the inclusion of a site within the SHLAA is not an endorsement by the Council that the site is necessarily suitable for development. All suggested sites will be rigorously tested to determine their suitability and this process will also be informed by public consultation.

Please use a separate form for each site and include a plan to show both the location and extent of each site.
