Policies in the Local Plan will be replaced by policies in the Development Plan Documents prepared as part of the Local Development Framework. For more information visit the Local Development Framework webpage.
Under Schedule 8 of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004, Development Plan policies which were adopted before 28 September 2004 were saved until 27 September 2007. In March 2007 the Government required all Local Planning Authorities to request an extension to saved policies within their Local Plan, examined against a set of criteria in PPS12.
Any policies that have not been saved are either no longer required or are already covered by national, regional or local policies. From Friday 28 September 2007 onwards, only those policies which have been saved by the Secretary of State can be used in making planning decisions.
On 25 September 2007 the Council received a response from the Secretary of State to this request for extending saved policies. A copy of the Secretary of State's decision and a list of the saved policies can be viewed by clicking on the attachment.
Details of saved policies are also provided in the Local Development Scheme. For further information please visit the Local Development Scheme webpage.
As unitary authorities, the responsibility for preparing minerals and waste policies in Berkshire is exercised by the six local authorities, through the Joint Strategic Planning Unit (JSPU). Details on these policies are available on the Minerals and Waste webpage.
