Planning enforcement investigates possible breaches of
planning control and, where appropriate, aims to resolve them
by using the most appropriate means or action. Planning laws
are designed to control the development and use of land and
buildings in the public interest. Carrying out work or changing
the use of land or buildings without planning permission is not
usually a criminal offence.
The Council must operate its enforcement activities within
Government guidelines and in accordance with Council
policy.
