Community Strategy

What is the Community Strategy?

The Community Strategy is a statutory visioning document, which all partnerships need to produce. It aims to draw together in one document the economic, environmental and social aspirations, priorities and needs of a local area. In addition the document is designed to promote continued sustainable development.

There are four main objectives of community strategies:

  • To articulate the community's aspirations, needs and priorities
  • To coordinate the actions of public, private , voluntary and community organisations
  • To shape and focus existing and future activities to meet community needs
  • To contribute to achieving sustainable development

The key features of a community strategy include:

  • A long term vision for the area
  • Action plans detailing short term priorities
  • A shared commitment to implement the action plan
  • Monitoring, reviewing and reporting processes
  • A clear assessment of needs and resources avaialble
  • An integration of the three strands of economic, social and environmental well-being
  • The involvement of local communities

The development and implementation of the community strategy involves a wide range of organisations, bodies and groups. This not only includes the Council but also other bodies in the public, private and voluntary sectors in addition to the local community and its representatives.

The Royal Borough's new Community Strategy was launched in Autumn 2007. A 'live' version of the Strategy, which will be updated with the latest information from partner organisations, can be viewed via the link below.
