Inspections of Children's Services

Ofsted has introduced a regime of yearly unannounced two-day inspection visits for children's social care. These will be supplemented by a full inspection of safeguarding and services for looked after children every three years.

The full safeguarding inspection looks not just at child protection issues and children's social care but at how all local services and agencies work together to ensure that children and young people are able to grow up in a safe environment receiving safe and effective care. The inspection involves a rigorous and wide-ranging examination of services across the council and RBWM's Children and Young People's Partnership. Inspectors examine services' case files and key documents and interview a wide range of managers and front-line staff from all services.

The results of both the unannounced two-day inspection visits to children's social care the full inspection of safeguarding and services for looked after children feed into the overall result for the Council's Ofsted Assessment, which is published annually in December.

For the Council's last Ofsted report in 2010, please see below.
