The Royal Borough manages around 1,862,500 sq m/ 186 hectares of parks and open spaces. The Parks team has to achieved Green Flag status for six of their parks in 2011. Kidwells Park in Maidenhead retains its status for the fourth year running and Home Park in Windsor, Braywick Park, Oaken Grove and Desborough Park in Maidenhead all retain their status for a third year running with
Clewer Memorial Recreation Ground gaining the award for the second time.
Green Flag recognises quality and rewards the best green spaces in the country. Key criteria which the spaces are judged on include: welcoming space, health, safety and security, cleanliness and maintenance, sustainability, conservation and heritage, community involvement, marketing and management.
Regularly visit sites to ensure that the defined standards are maintained within parks. The gardening staff ensure that the quality and range of horticultural features such as grass and litter collection, flower and shrub beds, hedges, playgrounds and outdoor sports facilities are all maintained appropriately and that standards of cleanliness and health and safety are achieved by regular inspection.
