Hippo Statue

"A Hippo and Baby" monument along The Green Way at North Town Moor.

An article in the Maidenhead Advertiser (March 16, 2001, p11) reports that the monument was placed by the Summerleaze Gravel CompanyLtd in celebration of 70 years of business for the company.

Size: 42,898 sq m/ 4.2 hectares. A walk around the perimeter of this park will contribute 3,400 steps to the advised 10,000 daily steps recommended to improve fitness.

The company owned the land at the time this article was written. The monument was sculpted by Harley Street dentist Kenneth Robinson, a former Maidenhead Rugby Club hooker. The Managing Director of the company, Peter Prior hoped the hippo would remind people to look after the planet.
