Grenfell Park was donated to the town in 1897 by Lord Desborough (William Grenfell) to mark Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. The park has a number of unusual trees, the seeds of which were provided by Lord Desborough after travelling the world. The steep wooded banks and large flat grassed area to the rear of the park form a natural amphitheatre.
A walk around the perimeter of this park will contribute 600 steps to the advised 10,000 daily steps recommended to improve fitness.
Work is currently underway to install lighting in the Park. Lighting columns will be located adjacent to the path in the open areas. Later in the summer illuminated bollards will be installed along the sloped path leading to South Road. We appreciate your patience while this work is carried out.
Exciting new play equipment for 8 - 13 year olds has been installed as part of the park improvements carried out in 2009/2010.

Improved access for Grenfell ParkA pedestrian ramp has been installed adjacent to the steps at the rear of the park. This provides greater accessibility for park users with buggies. In addition to this, renovations to the steps and landscaping to the area give an improved appearance to the northern end of the Park. This project was funded by developer contributions.
Landscape improvement works at Grenfell Park were carried out in 2009. The works followed public consultation carried out in spring 2008 and were aimed at improving facilities and making the park more inviting and accessible. This included enhancement of the Grenfell Road entrances, construction of new paths and installation of a car park. Remodelling the mounds area and clearance of overgrown tree and shrub areas has improved natural surveillance.
Other work included replacing of one of the park's original features - a cannon. An 18th century 'Finbanker' cannon has been placed near the entrance. A decorative water fountain and 6 new picnic tables and benches have been placed in the park.
Improvements to boundary fencing and paths around the park will take place when funds are available.
