Commemorative Planting

There are various ways in which individuals, residents associations, local organisations and companies can commemorate a special event. Why not mark the occasion of a new arrival in the family, a wedding, anniversary, birthday, citizenship ceremony or the loss of a loved one with a gift that keeps on growing and at the same time join the Royal Borough in improving the local environment.

Tree Planting

leafOrganisations and individuals are invited to make a donation of £10 or upwards towards the current years tree planting scheme, supporting both the purchase and maintenance of young trees in the borough. Each donor receives a certificate to mark the occasion and a dedication, with a map of the tree planting areas.

The 2009/2010 tree planting season:
Why not put on some sensible outdoor clothing, bring a spade and come and join us in planting trees on:
- Saturday 21 November at North Town Moor, Maidenhead, 10.30am to 1.30pm where we'll be planting a hedgerow for wildlife. Meet at North Town Moor just south of the cricket club, off Moor Lane, Maidenhead.
- Saturday 28 November at Sutherland Grange, Windsor 10.30am to 1.30pm (coincides with National Tree Week). We'll be planting a third circle to create a wildlife copse. Sutherland Grange is on the A308 next to Centrica.
- Saturday 5 December at Broomhall Recreation Ground, Sunningdale 10.30am to 1.30pm where we'll plant some young trees to help sustain the old Alder woodland. Meet by the pavilion in Broomhall Recreation Ground.
.
Native broadleaf species such as hawthorn and field maple are planted as young 'whips' around 60-90cm tall. They are planted in the winter while they are dormant to ensure good establishment of the tree. Complete the on-line form including your dedication message for a tree-planting donation or call 01628 796252.

Fields of Hope Project

In November 2009 the borough teamed up with Marie Curie to plant thousands of bulbs in four 'Fields of Hope' to raise money for the charity. Mass plantings of daffodils took place with the help of volunteers and sponsors, in Home Park, Windsor, Oaken Grove and Desborough parks in Maidenhead and Broomhall Recreation Ground in Sunningdale. We anticipate a huge display in the spring!
Marie Curie Cancer Care provides high quality nursing, totally free, to give terminally ill people the choice of dying at home supported by their loved ones.
