Parking Enforcement Frequently Asked Questions

Currently there is confusion about who is responsible for parking enforcement - the Police or the Council. Currently the Police enforce yellow lines. From 14 January 2008 the enforcement of yellow lines will be taken over by the Council.

With the introduction of the SPA (14 Jan 2008) the Council will take over the responsibility for yellow lines and limited waiting as well as its own residents' permit areas, heralding more consistent and fairer enforcement across the Borough.

The traditional parking fine will become a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN), which will apply to both on-street parking and in Council owned car parks.
