A High Court judicial review has resulted in disappointment for the Royal Borough and the many Windsor people who backed the council's staunch campaign to save 24/7 fire cover for the town.
Berkshire Fire Authority wants to axe night-time cover between 8pm and 8am, and at the High Court on Tuesday 17 February Mr Justice McCoombe did not uphold the council's contention that the fire authority's original consultation was flawed.

On Wednesday the 25th July 2007, the Fire Authority voted to accept the proposals of the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service's Integrated Risk Management Plan which includes the proposal to close down Windsor Fire Station at night. The plan is for Slough firefighters to cover Windsor's station ground in addition to their own, between 8pm and 8am. This will come into effect in late 2008/ early 2009.
Following the fire authority's decision, the Royal Borough unanimously passed a motion deploring the move. The council also agreed an action plan that included letters to local MPs and to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, to enlist their support. A letter was sent to the Queen, whose own home in Windsor was badly damaged by fire 1992.
The Royal Borough has also lodged an application to the High Court for permission to seek a judicial review of Berkshire Fire Authority's decision to close the town's fire station at night. A decision on this is expected by the end of February.
