Local Budget consultation on £225,000 of council spend - closing date extended to Monday 20 August

The closing date for the Royal Borough's 2012 Local Budget consultation has been extended from Tuesday 31 July to Monday 20 August.

The date change follows problems reported by residents about the distribution of the Local Budget consultation leaflet and the council has acted swiftly with the external delivery contractor to find solutions.

Cllr Christine Bateson, cabinet member for planning and partnerships, said: "Thanks to our residents who are keen to have their say about where part of their council tax should be spent, we have been able to identify areas, particularly in north Maidenhead, where deliveries have not been made.

"We have met with the contractor who has apologised and given a firm commitment to ensuring that the missed streets will be covered as a matter of urgency. Information about the extended closing date will also be distributed.

"Although residents can also vote online, the hand delivered leaflet is a key part of the consultation and we apologise to residents for the inconvenience this delivery problem has caused."

Cllr Bateson urged residents to vote in the budget consultation if they haven't already done so.

She added: "With three extra weeks to take part this is a good opportunity for residents to make sure they tell us where they want £225,000 of their council tax to be spent - or indeed to let us know if they don't want the council to spend the money at all. We are conscious that this is the summer holiday season so we wanted to give residents as much time as possible to respond. "

This is the third year of the 'you tell us' consultation giving residents the chance to rank their priorities on TWO lists of schemes:
• one offering £100,000 for priorities that would be of benefit across the borough and
• one offering £125,000 for schemes that would benefit people living in a particular area - Maidenhead, Windsor and Ascot & The Sunnings.
