By-election called for Eton and Castle ward

A by-election is to be held in the Eton and Castle ward of the Royal Borough on Thursday 11 August.

This follows the resignation of former councillor Liam Maxwell to take up a position in the Cabinet Office.

The by-election, called after the required petition from two local electors, will give the 1,525 electors in the ward the opportunity to vote for a new councillor.

The ward's two polling stations - Eton Town Council offices and the Guildhall - will be open from 7am to 10pm.

Eton and Castle, the borough's smallest ward in terms of electorate, is represented by one councillor.

Notes:
In the May 2011 council elections, there was a 52.6% turnout. Liam Maxwell (Conservative) was returned with 485 votes. George Fussey (Liberal Democrat) had 207 votes and George Henry Davidson (The Labour Party Candidate) 52.
