It's a change of scene this year for the borough's annual flag-raising event to celebrate British Armed Forces Day next week.
For the first time the borough's special Armed Forces Day flag will be raised over the council offices at York House, Sheet Street, Windsor, to mark the start of Armed Forces Week. In previous years the flag has been raised at the Town Hall in Maidenhead.
Representatives of local service organisations have once again been invited to bring their standards and to join the Mayor, Cllr Colin Rayner, for the flag-raising ceremony on Monday 25 June at 10.30am.
Cllr Rayner said this week: "This is the fourth year that councils have been encouraged to join in the national celebration in honour of all those who serve or who have served in the armed forces.
"I am delighted that we in the Royal Borough are once again taking this opportunity to show our appreciation to the members of the armed forces for their commitment and dedication and our utmost respect for their selfless contribution to serving their country. I hope as many people as possible will join us in this very fitting tribute."
The representatives of the service organisations will join the Mayor for refreshments after the ceremony in the conference room at York House.
The flag-raising ceremony has been timed to coincide with the road closures for the daily guard change. The special flag will fly above York House until after Armed Forces Day (Saturday June 30) - which provides an opportunity for the nation to show its support for the wider Armed Forces family of serving personnel (both regular and reserve), veterans and the cadet forces.
