Royal Borough community groups look set to benefit from a financial helping hand from the Council with the approval of reward grants totalling nearly £200,000 from the government
Cabinet on Monday approved the sum of £181,204 to be allocated to community partners to take forward projects and activities promoting the Council's Big Society agenda.
The Local Area Agreement reward grant was awarded in March after the Council successfully worked with partner organisations to meet 13 government targets.
Cllr Christine Bateson, Cabinet Member for Planning and Partnerships, said: "This is really great news for the Council and for community groups across the borough.
"These grants will help groups to develop projects and activities which support our position as a Big Society vanguard authority and which will benefit residents by supporting future community development.
"I would urge local organisations planning community projects with a specific Big Society focus to consider applying for funds through this grants process."
Applications for reward grant funding will be made to the Council's Big Society Panel through a members sub-panel using an easier and speedier application form similar to the new process for dealing with Council revenue and grant funding.
