Royal Borough - fully charged and raring to go!

The Royal Borough has secured one of the first 100% electric, award-winning Nissan Leaf cars available in the UK and is the first local authority to add one to its fleet.

With zero CO2 emissions, the Leaf is helping the Council to support its commitment to sustainability and will be available as a pool car for staff and councillors. It will also be used to demonstrate the potential of electric cars to residents and partner organisations.

With a range of just over 100 miles on a full charge, the Leaf is a viable proposition for travelling in and around the borough. Astoundingly, it can be recharged using a domestic socket, with an 80% charge taking just 30 minutes.

The Royal Borough is investigating the provision of charging points in convenient locations such as leisure centre car parks and borough car parks.

Cllr Phill Bicknell, Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport and Environment, said: "I am delighted that the Council has again notched up another first green credential.

"We are committed to promoting car sharing and reducing the number of carbon-rich journeys so introducing electric cars to our fleet is a natural choice. We will continue to work with local businesses to secure charge points throughout the borough."
