The final mopping-up works on the Windsor and Eton relief road are under way and set to be completed over the next three weeks. Some closures will be necessary but have been planned to cause minimum disruption.
The project was in effect completed and cones cleared before Easter, with the wash-up work suspended until after the busy holiday period and other major events.
Final works include:
• site clearance
• configuration of the traffic signals at Clarence Road roundabout
• installation of variable message signs
• completion of road signs
• repairs to footway over Elizabeth Bridge
• minor repairs.
Work resumed on Monday (16 May) and has been progressing successfully with limited temporary traffic management.
It will continue for the next two to three weeks with lane closures in place southbound and northbound from 10am to 3pm from Monday 23 May for five days.
From Tuesday 31 May until Friday 10 June there will be night-time lane closures between 9pm and 5am. These lane closures are essential to ensure outstanding work is safely completed.
There will be full road closures on:
• Thursday 2 and Tuesday 7 June between 10pm and 5am (southbound only)
• Monday 6 June between 10pm and 5am (northbound only).
A fully signed diversion route will be in place. These full road closures are needed to complete road markings.
Ben Smith, Group Manager, Highway Services, said: "These are the finishing touches to the biggest road project the Royal Borough has ever undertaken.
"These final works have been carefully planned to ensure the minimum disruption possible to residents, business and visitors, particularly over the half-term period. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience that may be caused."
