Report 'shows Royal Borough offers great value for money'

The Royal Borough's success in delivering more for less has been highlighted in a report released on Tuesday (17 May) by the Department for Communities and Local Government showing how much money English town halls have available to spend for each resident.

The report reveals the Royal Borough is the lowest spending unitary authority in the country, receiving £715.06 per person from council tax and government funding.

Council tax in the Royal Borough is the lowest in the country outside of London, and the council receives one of the lowest government grants.

Cllr David Burbage, Council Leader, said: "This report flags up how efficiently the Royal Borough is delivering more for less and offering great value for money. Residents continue to receive outstanding services but at a lower cost.

"We may be the lowest spending council in the country but we aren't resting on our laurels - we will continue to introduce even more efficient and cost-effective ways of working, while not compromising on standards of service."

Councils countrywide will spend almost £53bn this financial year, an average of £1,017 for every man, woman and child. About 19% of councils receive more than £1,050 to spend per resident, 62% between £830 and £1,050, and 19% below £830. The poorest areas receive the highest government grants.
