Royal Borough success at Energy Savings Awards

The Royal Borough has once again demonstrated its "green" credentials by scooping a runner-up award in the prestigious national Energy Savings Awards.

The council won runner-up in the Public Sector Category of the awards which are run in partnership with the Guardian, Energy Savings Trust and the CBI. The awards celebrate the best examples of how companies and organisations have made their transport fleets greener. Awards are issued over a range of categories covering issues including business mileage, smarter-driving, innovation and leadership.

The Borough has introduced a range of initiatives, including a successful staff pool car scheme to enable staff to use pool cars rather than their own.

Cllr Colin Rayner, Cabinet Member for Highways and Streetcare, said: "The Royal Borough has spent a great deal of time and effort encouraging a number of schemes to make us 'greener'. I would like to congratulate our fleet manager Mark Green for all his hard work which resulted in this well deserved award.

"It clearly demonstrates that once again the Royal Borough has been recognised for leading the way and takes an innovative approach to carbon reduction.

"In addition, council staff avoid unnecessary travel by car by cycling to work and using teleconferencing facilities where possible."
